During a thunderstorm in the summer of 2020, Nicola and I had our first phone call. After working on a fantasy series for 20 years (two decades!), she was looking for help with editing and publishing.
As we began working together, I discovered that she is a virtual alchemist. Nicola likes to say, "Everything I touch turns to art. Visual art, written, aural, tactile, you name it, I love it!" At Siretona and The Book Hatchery, we are discovering the truth of her claim. She enlivens every author coaching meeting, eagerly beta-reads other authors' manuscripts, and is establishing us in the audiobook market. Those are just three examples of her creative magic!
Nicola is also wise. One day I compared her to the all-knowing trash heap from the Canadian TV show, Fraggle Rock.* And Nicola is playful. Several months ago she got into a glitter fight with a grandmotherly friend. The convergence of these two led to her nickname: Madam Glitter Heap.

* Marjory the Trash Heap is a large, matronly, sentient compost heap from Fraggle Rock. According to her rat-like companions Philo and Gunge, who serve as her acolytes, the Trash Heap knows all and sees all. In fact, Marjory is all: "I'm orange peels, I'm coffee grounds, I'm wisdom!"
